DEPTHX being readied for final expedition to the world’s deepest water-filled cavern (El Zacaton Cenote)

2 May 2007:

Expedition crews will be departing for Tampico, Mexico on 9 May 2007 to commence underwater exploration of El Zacaton Cenote (15-24 May 2007) with the DEPTHX 3-D mapper and life form collector. Due to the importance of this mission to future space missions, NASA Headquarters is sending a crew to the site to capture the event for Public Affairs. Once the expedition crews are in place, a daily blog will be provided to this website to record progress. El Zacaton could be as deep as 1000 meters and DEPTHX is expected to plumb its depths totally autonomously.
